ARC problem on Windows 7

#1 Post by BruceN »

We are still having problems running the Alaska Resource Compiler on any Windows 7 machine (tried 3 so far ... one is 64 bit and the other 2 are 32 - running as Admin). All give same error: could not start preprocessor, OS error: 2. I have tried recreating the Express resource file and it gives the same error. I can take the exact same files and compile on any of our XP machines and it works just fine. I know there have been posts from others that they have no problem on Win 7, but nothing we try seems to help. I know error 2 is file not found ... but I have no idea what it is even looking for that it cannot find on the Win 7 machines. Any further ideas?

Hello,
here is all working on W7 32 and 64 Bit, have you tried to copy all to drive c ? Maybe a shared drive makes the problems.

From the lib folder, I type, at a command prompt, arc express ... and I get the error. If I switch to my XP boot, it works just fine.

what happend if you just type ARC.EXE ?

i did have a "other" Tool called "Universal Extractor" which also contain a file "ARC.EXE" which was in Path before C:\ALASKA\BIN.

Try going into your \alaska\xppw32\bin directory and run it from there.

I think there is something in your path that is interfering.
