Xbase++ 3.0 first look

#1 Post by bwolfsohn »

So, alaska sends out an email today wtih the subject:

Xbase++ 3.0 first look and Visual FoxPro application modernization..

it contains a bunch of bullet points (in paragraph format), but no links to further information...

under the heading: for Xbase++ developers:

// New language features such as temporal arithmetic, smart-send operator, namespaces, hierarchic-library-names and a new way to access 3rd-party APIs transparently // More than 20 new Xbase Parts using HTML/CSS to control visual appearance // Native SSL Client/Server support for ASINet Sockets as well as Web-handler and WebSockethandler // Next Generation UI for Desktop and Web to leverage the same knowledge // Various WebHandler and CXP extensions // Universal Macro Management for the Xbase++ Workbench // Better multi-monitor and virtual DPI support for existing desktop applications

but again, nothing but keywords/buzzwords with no detail..
lots of icing, but no cake..

temporal arithmetic ???
and they didn't even mention warp drive :)

They haven't even finished 2.0 yet.

Inline SQL still doesn't work and the documentation isn't finished.

This is very aggravating seeing announcements like this. I'm not holding my breath.

I have been working on a VFP conversion with a customer.
It has been going very well, using eXpress++, and has taken very little time to make huge progress.

The customer sent me an email this morning after seeing the announcement suggesting that we switch to using 3.0. The announcement almost derailed the project. I am speaking on this subject at the conference this year with the objective of showing how easy it is to convert some VFP projects without waiting for 3.0 or Polar Fox.
The eXpress train is coming - and it has more cars.

Roger,

I understand your (our) frustration... I think the emails are targeted towards the VFP community... I think that's where they see their future significant revenue coming from...

I look forward to attending a POST-ARIZONA conference in Boise to discuss the reality on-the-ground.. :)

since it'll still be before the election, we can ignore politics the turning of the supremes blue and the recapture of the senate...

I'm already planning such an event again next spring.

I have learned a lot since our little devcon last spring.

We could delay it until August 21, 2017 and all travel to see the full solar eclipse.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming is one of the best places to see it in the entire country.
First one in the U.S. in 40 years.

It would be a great trip. We would go through Yellowstone on the way back.
We would rent a few SUV's and make it a caravan.

It's about 8 hours each way.
It would be an overnighter.

Who's game?

Here is the info you requested.

http://www.wyomingstargazing.org/2017-solar-eclipse/

We may not be able to get a room and will have to camp out in tents.
Weather should be great though. Typical August 21 weather in Jackson Hole is 80 degrees F.

I can make sure we have tents big enough for all with air mattresses.

It's time for another big adventure through the greatest part of the American north west.

We will travel over Beartooth Pass, considered one of the best motorcycle rides in North America.
I have been over it twice.

Have you ever been to Yellowstone or the Grand Tetons? The absolute best time to go is in late August.
