PI approximation day

Here is a most useless fact.
I received an email from Scientific American magazine today reminding me that today is PI approximation day (7/22).
Dividing 7 by 22 yields .318181818181818 (not very close)
Such a strange way for a well-respected, 150-year old, science magazine to try to get the attention of potential readers.
I already subscribe to Scientific American and I always thought that they were better than this.
