In a few days to come we will be putting this year behind us. It appear that Xbase++ has reach its end. NO ROAD MAP. No news of any sort. Not even about CLOUD First announced some times ago.

Why is it that the people who use Xbase++ the least are those who are the most concerned about its longevity?

We were having this conversation 18 years ago.
What happened to those people?

We all know what happened to Xbase++.
It continued on as the longest supported Xbase language ever.

I have several software products in various industries all running on Xbase++ code so I use it extensively.
What I notice is that my workbench keeps telling me there are new downloads available.
So unless there are elves working in the office at night, someone from the Alaska team is writing code to force an update.

As for the holiday, I work with a coding house in Greece.
They're off on holiday as well for a month; maybe it's a European thing.
Here in New York we're workaholics, maybe they're holidayaholics.
As for where they're going 'while Corona is everywhere"?

Maybe they're driving for Uber to make a little extra cash.
Maybe they all invested in a startup weiner schniztel franchise using crowd funding (Xbase programmers are the crowd).
Maybe they're on a nudist cruise with Angela Merkel.
Who cares?
Does it matter as long as they come back?
No.

Good news is that there are plenty of other languages to choose from if you think XBase++ is at it's end.
Of course you'll have to spend time and money learning those languages first.

But as the saying goes: The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence.

You were lucky to have weeds and dirt.
We scraped the tar off the telephone poles and chewed it (for dessert), only after we licked the road for our meal.
Then, for entertainment, we ran after the manure truck while the dog barked at the horse's feet.

Of course, this only makes sense to those of us lucky enough to have lived during the time when history was actually taught in school.

as i know Antonio Linares was first who made a Window GUI for xBase before CA have bought Cl*pper.
this was before OS/2 where Alaska release Xbase++.

compare to FiveWin or MOD_harbour Alaska is 10 Years behind Antonio
but as long Alaska have User who "prepaid" for "SubScription" so they have Money to make Holiday ...

If I have my facts correct, Xbase++ was started in 1997 and Harbour in 1999.
FiveWin started as an add-on product not a standalone Xbase++ language product so it doesn't really qualify.

But none of that answers the original question: "Has Xbase++ reached the end?"
It's not an issue of which product came first or which has been supported the longest.

It's like trying to answer the age old question of which came first: The chicken or the egg?
Why does it matter; they're both still widely used today.

I do not think what came first or was supported the longest has anything to do with predicting longevity.
Longevity is based on familiarity, ease of use, user base, perception, support, product diversity and product usage.

There is an enormous user base of FoxPro programmers and thousands of FoxPro programs still in use today.
Yet FoxPro hasn't been supported for years.
Is FoxPro dead?
If anyone says yes I think they would be wrong.
FoxPro is not dead, it's just not an evolving language but you can still use it to create new software.
So it hasn't reached it's end.
I think that trying to answer if Xbase++ has reached the end is a mute point.

But it seems to be a topic that forum users like to bring up year after year.
Repeatedly thinking the worst is known as 'Catastrophizing' which is a classified as a cognitive disorder.
People bring up the worst to make themselves feel better about something else in their lives.
Hmmm, maybe it's not Xbase++ we should be examining...LOL
