eXpress++ European Devcon 2017

#1 Post by rdonnay »

Donnay Software is planning a European Devcon in the last week of May, 2017.

We have had three (3) successful eXpress++ devcons in the U.S. since 2008.
Most European users have found that it would be too costly to come to the
U.S., however we have had eXpress++ users make the trip from Germany,
Belgium, Slovenia, The Netherlands, and The U.K.

I feel that it is time to connect with the eXpress++ community in Europe and
so I am proposing that we get together for 3 days of learning and camaraderie.

Jack Duijf, a 15-year eXpress++ user, has offered to host this event in
Veenendaal, The Netherlands, near his home village.

The speakers will include myself (Roger Donnay), Jack Duijf, Bobby Drakos and
Steffen Pirsig (CEO of Alaska Software).

The cost per person will be 595 Euros and this will cover all expenses except
travel. This will include the conference, hotel and all meals. In order to
break even, we must have 25 paid attendees. The hotel is capable of handling
as many as 45 attendees.

All attendees will receive, free, a 1-year subscription to eXpress++. This
will be the latest version which is compatible with Xbase++ 1.9 and 2.0.

In 3 days, we can cover a variety of subjects related to Xbase++ and
eXpress++.

Roger Donnay will be giving sessions on "Working with XML", "Xbase++ 2.0
Internet Technologies" and a variety of subjects specifically of interest to
eXpress++ developers.

Among the topics that will be covered are the following:

* Sub-classing with eXpress++.
* Creating and deploying a KIOSK (touch screen) application.
* Using Xbase++ 2.0 data objects and record objects with eXpress++.
* Creating animations in XML.
* Writing a SOAP server and SOAP client in Xbase++ 2.0 (without Xb2Net).
* Using <CXP/> with your Web applications.
* How to use the owner-draw feature of eXpress++ with DCBROWSE.
* How to design screens that use dynamic scaling and resizing.
* How to use the new DESIGN mode of eXpress++.
* How eXpress++ was used to convert a Visual Foxpro application.
* eXpress++ and Advantage Server (including SQL).
* eXpress++ debugging.
* User interface design concepts.

Steffen Pirsig will talk about Xbase++ 2.0 and the Alaska road map. He and
Bobby Drakos will entertain you with an interactive "code-shrink" session.

Before we post information about how to order, we are first attempting to
determine if there is sufficient interest in this event to proceed. We are
aware that there will be an Xbase++ conference in Germany in the first week
of May. We are planning our event in the last week of May and our
conference will be devoted to using eXpress++ with Xbase++. The language for
this event will be English.

Please reply to Roger Donnay (rogerdonnay@donnay-software.com) if you would
attend this event.
