You must start each header column with character ASCII <'> (27 HEX, 39 DEC) for numeric fields to say that it is a text and not a number

It doesn't work for vector fonts (versions 5 and later) which are based on Unicode. You need another solution. I encountered this problem with cdx indexes and ADS, I solved it by creating indexes with a different name than the data file (example: parts.dbf -> parts0.cdx ...) and eliminating parts.cdx
