ocx files and registry issues

#1 Post by bwolfsohn »

Roger,

I saw an interesting post from mark sergent on the xbase 3rd party products newsgroup. the thread is xb2net and cdata sections.

here's his message:
We use a number of activex conrols in our application and had the same
concerns with registration of controls and updates etc. We chose to move to
a registration free environment using an updated manifest file for the
application. We put the controls with all of our runtime files and
executables and run them without registering them in windows at all. It
just means we have to send and updated manifest files when we send updated
controls to customers. I have attached a zip file with the instructions and
the manifest file for our app to use as a reference.
Thoughts ??

Hey Brian,

Would you be able to post that zip file so we can take a look at it?

Bobby,

I'm interested in what you think of this approach...

Brian -

It isn't very clear that this can be done easily unless you use Microsoft's Visual Studio.
