Renewal Fees

I received an email from an eXpress++ user complaining that the subscription renewal fee is too high. He is demanding a lower fee for loyal users.

I have long said that I will continue supporting eXpress++ until users do not want to pay for my time anymore, and then I will retire. I would like to have a discussion about this.

1. Should I continue supporting eXpress++?
2. What do you expect or want from me?
3. What is this worth to you?

Roger,

The renewal fee is just fine. Especially compared to acrobat or microsoft products where nothing new is every provide.

Plus you provide support.

Continue supporting and enhancing Express++

Roger,

By the way, i saw, that my 2-year subcription ended last month. I will renew it in the next days.

Roger,

Your fees are to low.. (for everyone else).. For me, they're just fine.. :)

You provide more support for the $$ than any other software i use..

Loyal users should be paying MORE.. after all, we probably use more features than newbies..

Roger,

A fillup for my car costs $100.00
A nice dinner out with my darling bride costs over $100.00
Any major sporting event (tickets, parking and food) which we attend exceeds $200.00

Your product is attractively priced, you provide constant support and suggestions.
You produce significant updates and enhancements - Often.
And EVERYTHING which you have included within your product offerings saves me hours of time and frustration.

While I appreciate that times are difficult and some people are additionally burdened,
I have always said and truly mean that your support pricing is too low, especially considering the value received.

Please continue to do what you do so well. If this person is truly in need, let me know and I will pay for them.
And I am sorry, but a true "Loyal" user is loyal to your needs as well.

Rick

Hi, Roger.
1. Should I continue supporting eXpress++?
As long as you feel comfortable with this - go ahead. But you should not leave this decision to us. You should know what comes of it. 8-)
2. What do you expect or want from me?
I don't expect a paradigm change within the Xbase++ language for the next years. eXpress++ is highly stable, comes with the sources and will work "as is" for years. The question should be: What do you expect from us? We are programmers. We should learn what eXpress++ is all about - and turn the product into a "living library", like some of us already do. You added the subclassing functionality some time ago, which allows to add stuff without changing your code. This is the first step. A second step would be to understand your work. It's our responsibility to do that. eXpress++ is not a black box. It's tons of useful code.
3. What is this worth to you?
Everything you ask for. You should know that aswell. ;)

If anyone can't get a return on their subscription of at least 10 times the price they should be using something else.
I don't program for a living, but the hundreds of hours I have saved over the years with Express writing a package for my business is the best return on a software investment I have ever had. Please don't stop. You have definately made a difference with me.
