Dialog Speed different issue

#1 Post by bwolfsohn »

Ran in to a new issue for us this morning.. HP computer Windows 7. single user

all anti-virus turned off.
windows defender turned off
We've turned of smb2.
and directory caching

re-indexing (opening and closing of files) seems to run at normal speed..

opening up a dialog with a bunch of fields pegs the cpu for 5 - 10 seconds before opening.

only cps usage noted in task manager is our application and svchost.

has anyone run into this ??

Sounds like you may have spyware, malware, or any of those ugly stuff you don't want.
I use SuperAntiSpyware, it has a FREE version and works just fine. Install and update in normal mode.
Switch to safe mode to run SuperAntiSpyware it will take some time.
I also use AVG FREE the number 1 ANTI VIRUS in all of them. After Install go to TOOLS ADVANCE SETTINGS
go through each of the settings then APPLY and OK. You will see that the scan is NOT enabled, shame on them.
Updates are daily scan can be at any time, both are controlled by you. I leave my computer on 24/7 and just turn off the monitor. Works GREAT!

John,

We've run a number of anti programs.. the protections were turned off to insure that THEY weren't causing the problem..

thanks for the reply...

Hello,

Maybe a videocard issue if you have visual styles enabled.
Disable hardware acceleratior of your video card.
See display properties\advanced\Troublesooting

Maybe this helps.

Hi, Brian.

This also might be caused by a registry scan from DC_AutoRestore (..browse/window). If you use this technique, turn it off to find out whether it causes this problem or not. Some vcs even scan registry activity. Or the reg is corrupted.
Best regards,
Tom

I'm only now getting started with Windows 7. I have a brand new iCore 5 computer and I am very disappointed with the performance of Xbase++ apps. They run much faster on my 5-year old notebook running under XP.

@Roger: I can't confirm this. My app (1.9/SL1, manifests) is much faster with W/7 compared to XP or Vista on comparable machines.
Best regards,
Tom

I have just determined that it is not Windows 7. It is the display controller on my new laptop.
Everything runs very fast if I don't have external monitors. I didn't have that problem with my old laptop.

I figured it out. The power supply that came with my port replicator was insufficient wattage (130 W).
After I connected a 210 W power supply, performance is now acceptable.
That's a relief. Now I can get some work done.

I have been invited to be a speaker at the German Devcon next April. Look forward to seeing you all there.

We had a similiar problem on a windows 7 computer with symantec endpoint. turning it off did not correct the problem, but everything worked once it was uninstalled.
