Windows 11

#1 Post by omni »

Roger,
We have a client who updated some work stations to windows 11 and they will login to our app on their server, but it eventuallly just locks up, all of them. No error messages.
We have not heard of such an issue and I personally use windows 11 in same network type, and their other windows work stations are fine.
Any thoughts. I did have to turn off my firewall on windows as it would just not open any exe on my server, but that is not the same issue.

Sorry, Fred, but I have no experience at all with Windows 11.

This sounds like a question for Alaska Software.

We have dozends of customers using our rather complex application on/with Windows 11. No problems at all. There were some build/updates that caused errors, but all of them should be fixed in meantime.
Best regards,
Tom

Is that server perhaps running really old version of SMB v1 ? Many restrictions (and sometimes just blocked) for SMB v1 shares.

On locking out, check for power saving options on network cards and disable every single one of them if present.

Hey,

An update to this. The user still has the issue but has discovered it the work station closes the menu option that they stay in most of the time and just go back to the main menu (ie, not data files are open) no errors. So its just when they stay idle for some time period with files open.
The error is operating system error, and it shows some number of files open (detail list), what record that each is on and ********** for total records, which means it cannot see the files any longer (at least that is what is appears to indicate). This pretty much Roger's printed out error log and always shows the number of records, index, etc.

Says he does not have the work stations going to sleep ever and has other programs open that are fine, but they are all loaded on work stations, not the server.

At this point to us it is a hardware issue and have no clue what to tell him. (not ADS, server 2008, same as I have)
4-5 users so ADS is just not necessary. He has had our system for 20+ years.

hi,

when look in you Error Log it seems you still use Drive-Letter instead of UNC-Path
that mean you are using Lan-Manager over UPD Port 139 using SMB-1 :naughty:

since VISTA we have SMB-2 over Port 445 so you got 2 x "Listen" at same Time ...
Microsoft does default DISABLE SMB-1 while it is not "Secure" to use UDP Port 135-139 (WannaCry & Co)

---

i can see many "Open" DBF ... that will force to use "Ops Locking Share" which slow down Network
did you check for NetErr() after APPEND ? under "Ops Locking Share" it may fail and your Index get corrupt ...

i recommend to "think" like SQL and use DBF only when "need" and close it when finish

---

i have made a small Tool using PowerShell to get SMB Info need for Xbase++ and harbour
