Speed Windows 11

#1 Post by skiman »

Hi,

Meanwhile I'm working for about two weeks with Windows 11 on my laptop.

I notice a decrease of speed in most applications. It looks as 'screen/dialog' handling is slower. Opening a dialog in our application is really slower than before. Compiling my application is also slower as before. CPU usage seems higher and the fan of my laptop is making extra hours.
At startup we maximize the screen, and now you see this happen, in the past it wasn't noticable for a user.
An application we are using, based on the webserve.prg of xb2net doesn't start anymore. Up to now I didn't found the cause of this and I have to investigate this further..
My laptop is an i7 CPU with 16 Gb. Memory. There is a Windows 11 Pro installed on it.

Just wondering if someone else noticed the same behaviour?
Best regards,

Chris.

do you have a NVM or SSD in you Laptop :?:
if Yes have a look at KB5007262 (manual Update)

under Windows 11 your VM / SSD might decrease upto -40% :!:

Hi,

Yes, I have a SSD in my system.

The build I have installed is 22000376, it should contain the KB you mentioned, which is from 22 November.

Feels like my laptop slowed down a little, but the desktop computer with W11 on it runs at the same speed as before.
Best regards,
Tom

Hi Tom,

At this moment I won't install W11 on my desktop. I like to be a little adventurous , but there are limits. :D
Best regards,

I've been asked by a couple of my colleagues to enquire if anyone else is seeing what appears to be dialog repainting / slowdown issues. I personally do not have Windows 11 yet.

We yesterday asked Alaska if there are any known issues and they replied this morning that they don't know of any current issues.

My colleague, who was using a quite recent Windows 11 build (dev build 22557.1 if that means anything) along with Xbase++ 2.0 build 1542, is one of the main people testing our application.

He says that this issue is quite noticeable in how long it takes for our dialogs to open and the fact that you can see the objects being painted onscreen as the dialog is built. I have seen myself what he means but only ever over a remote connection.

He is currently looking into the possibility that our antivirus is slowing things down although our application was already added as an exception.

hi,

the 1st. Question : is your PC "real" Windows 11 compatible :?:

general you can install on ALL PC with had Windows 10 (using Bypass.REG ).

but "older" Hardware are not support by Windows 11
e.g. Ryzen 2xxx / 3xxx L3-Cache does not work correct ( -40% )

so you have to tell use exact what Hardware is used under Windows 11

---

Windows 11 DEV have just "switch" from "Nickel" to "Copper" which will be release in Summer 2022
Windows DEV Team will start with Windows 12 :!: this Month

For Info, then, the spec of my colleagues PC is:

MODEL: Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s SFF (10ST007EUK)
CPU: : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400 CPU @ 2.90GHz (6 CPUs), ~2.9GHz
RAM: 8192MB
OS: Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 22557) (22557.ni_release.220210-1445)
STORAGE: 256Gb SSD (WDC PC SA530 SDATB8Y256G1001)
GRAPHICS: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 (Driver: 27.20.100.8783, Native Resolution: 1920 x 1080)
AUDIO: Realtek(R) Audio (Driver: RTKVHD64)

And as far as I know, that is a validated PC capable of running Windows 11.

hi,

you are working with Windows 11 DEV Version.
remember DEV Version include Code which will not be in Release Version.

i do have Windows 10 and Windows 11 Release together with Windows 11 DEV on my PC
using Multi-Boot i can switch between 3 x OS and compare "same Code" running.
